AS FEATURED ON:

Homeade Ginger Ale

  • the juice of 1/2 lemon
  • the juice of 1/2 lime
  • 3-4 Tablespoons of finely grated FRESH ginger.  3 tbsp for mild, 4 tbsp for stronger.
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • Seltzer

Ok, here's the deal.  Making your own sodas aren't that hard.  You simply make a boiled syrup, then add that syrup to seltzer water.  Hey, its the same way you get all the commercially made sodas out of a fountain, so why not try making a few yourself?

Today, you own sodas.  Tomorrow, the world.

  • (NOTE: Also, have a clear squeeze bottle handy to keep the syrup.  A glass jar will work too.)

Squeeze out the lemon and lime juices into a medium saucepan, making sure you don't leave any seeds.  Add the grated ginger, cinnamon, sugar, and warm over medium heat.  Slowly add water.

Bring to a light boil, then hold it there for about 10 minutes. It should be about the thickness of thin maple syrup. Let cool for about 10-15 minutes.

If you like, you can strain out the ginger before you put in the container.  If you don't plan to use it all within the week, store in the refrigerator.

Add about 3-4 teaspoons per 12 ounces of seltzer water.  Goes awesome with Bourbon for a real old fashioned...just don't call me at 2am telling me how great it is and that you miss your ex.
